Community Development |
|
Nepean Housing Corporation provides programs for seniors, adults, youth and children who reside our communities using a community development model. We are currently in the process of identifying what programs our communities are interested in. We are working towards introducing programs and services based on identified needs and community feedback.
If you are interested in getting involved or have some program ideas for our communities, please contact Sara Dell’Oso at 823-8452 ext. 119 or by e-mail at saradelloso@nepeanhousing.ca.
The Community Development Model
This model promotes active and representative participation with the intent of enabling community members to meaningfully influence the decisions that affect their lives. Our goal is to assist residents to access services (beyond housing) in order to build capacity and improve the well-being of our housing communities. Building community capacity relates to the ability of individuals, organizations and communities to manage their own affairs and to work together to make and sustain positive changes in their lives and in their communities. |

NHC Receives Trillium Grant!!!
Nepean Housing Corporation is delighted to announce that the Ontario Trillium Foundation has approved a grant request for $36,000 over 12 months for a pilot program initiative titled “Safety Matters”. “Safety Matters” is a community-driven program that addresses safety issues from a holistic approach. The concept of “Safety Matters” is a more preventative approach to crime prevention rather than reactive. Community members, with an emphasis on youth, will be given the opportunities to build a toolbox of skills to assume leadership roles and be the key contributors in making their communities a safer and more vibrant place to live. These funds will be used to hire a Community and Youth Outreach Worker who will work alongside our Community Developer assisting in developing and delivering workshops, training and information sessions. We will be working with a variety of community partners such as The Nepean Rideau and Osgoode Community Resource Centre, The South Nepean Satellite Community Health Centre, The Canadian Red Cross, The Ottawa Police, You Can, Tae E. Lee Taekwondo, and The City of Ottawa (Public Health, and Parks and Recreation Department) who are anxious to offer their time and expertise to contribute to the success of this initiative. Programming will include such activities as children’s taekwondo lessons, self defense lessons, community safety meetings, free First Aid and CPR workshops. There will be something for everyone, spaces are limited flyers will be delivered to promote events. |
